Accessibility
The Americans with Disabilities Act, together with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provide inspiration, guidance and standards related to making Internet Web sites accessible.
A main component of these recommendations is that Web sites be 'reasonably compliant' to these standards. Standards are open to interpretation, and solutions vary. Southeast Michigan UASI has made design decisions that help our Web site work for those with accessibility issues, while still providing the best information possible in a variety of formats to our many visitors. This means that some areas of our Web site may not be useful for some visitors*, but we feel strongly that this information should still be made available to the many visitors who are able to access it.
In all cases, Southeast Michigan UASI will make reasonable efforts to find another way to make this information accessible to all who are interested but unable to access the information online.
General considerations Southeast Michigan UASI has made to provide information in a way accessible to as many visitors as possible:
- Information in text formats, rather than images (such as a scanned-in table or chart).
- Use of templates for all pages, so the navigation and order of items read with accessibility technologies are consistent throughout the site.
- Graphic elements include Alt tags, which give information about the object to coincide with what one would understand by seeing the object.
- Use of software that scans our Web site and reports where the format does not meet standards.
Southeast Michigan UASI is committed to improving the quality of life in Southeast Michigan. The Southeast Michigan UASI Web site is one tool toward that goal. Please contact Southeast Michigan UASI for questions regarding the Southeast Michigan UASI Web site, or for assistance in accessing information on the site.
The material on this site comes from a variety of sources. We do not control or guarantee the accuracy, relevance, timeliness or completeness of any outside information. Also, the inclusion of links or pointers to particular items is not intended to reflect their importance nor is it an endorsement of any of the views expressed or products or services offered.
* We have included a fly out menu navigation structure because it offers an overview of the entire site. We realize this technology will not be useful for some visitors.
